90 Minutes Magazine
Back in 1994, I was reading this football magazine when I noticed a competition. Win a pair of VIP tickets to the Coca Cola League Cup Final at Wembley. The runners-up prize was a very fetching baseball jacket. There was a round for each round of the tournament.. "Wow", I thought. "That's a nice jacket." So I set out to write less than 300 words about events surrounding the quarter finals of the tournament in an attempt to win the runners-up prize. I posted my efforts, waited, waited, and the moved house from Hinckley to Cromer...
While perusing in a newsagent in Cromer about a month later, I was scanning the winning entry in the Do the Write Thing competition, when I thought that it seemed familiar. I scanned a bit closer, and realised it was mine. I had won tickets to Wembley!! I'm on the way to Wembley, I'm on the way to Wem..... hold on, didn't I want the baseball jacket????!!!

As events transpired, for personal reasons I was unable to go to Wembley for the final. The next year, the competition was run again. Having missed out on my tickets, I was determined to win a replacement pair, so I could experience the magic of Wembley stadium. Armed with a false name, and an even more false story, I sent in my new effort.
While perusing in a newsagent in Norwich about a month later, I was scanning the winning entry in the Do The Write Thing competition, when I thought the name's of one of the runners-up seemed familiar. I scanned a bit closer, and realised this was my pen name. I had won the runners-up prize, a baseball jacket. I've got a baseball jacket, I've got a baseball jack.... hold on, didn't I want the Wembley tickets????!!!

There's a moral to this story somewhere along the lines of not getting what you want, but I can't be bothered to look for it.
